Changes to Legislation in October 2014


Increase in NMW rates

The following rates apply to the National Minimum Wage (NMW) from 1 October 2014:

Workers aged 21 and over £6.50 per hour

Workers aged 18 to 20 £5.13 per hour

Workers aged 16 to 17 £3.79 per hour

Apprentices (those under the age of 19 and older apprentices in the first year of apprenticeship) £2.73 per hour


Time off for ante-natal appointments

From 1 October 2014, expectant fathers, and partners of pregnant women, will be entitled to take time off to attend up to two ante-natal appointments with their partner. This right is introduced by the Children and Families Act 2014.
